This is a real e-mail I got at work. Left me in stitches and I thought it would be selfish not to share it with fellow bloggers. I think this guy has humorous writing potential, don’t you! Next time I list something for sale on Ebay, maybe I should consider his approach. 🙂
- Shiny black high-heeled shoes – they look like three-inch heels to me
- Size 6 (or 39 if you’re a European)
- Branded as “Fiore” (a Matalan own-brand)
- Made in China
- Previously worn by a lady and never worn by me, honest
- Left under my desk by a former employee who doesn’t want them any more because they “didn’t really fit her”
- Very good condition for that reason
- Free to a good home (or even a bad one – keep your pet hamsters in them if you want, I really don’t care)
To be collected from the Timetabling, Exams and Course Records office.
Very cute! You’re right, it’s clever. Sometimes I think writing is so personified most people don’t recognize its potential.

Indeed! I feel a bit mean for stealing it, but, then, it is very funny.

Forget about Jimmy Choos, Matalan ftw. One co-worker (from another dept.) actually sold fish at work (from the car boot) in the car park…

I am not surprised! The kind of stuff people sell is hillarious sometimes. What made me laugh was this colleague’s obvious hatred for these shoes, and how passionately he wanted to get rid of them. 😉

glad to hear that 😉 my ex-sister in law’s slippers were something else, let me tell you. Lucky for her, her sense of smell was non-existent.

It also bugs me, wouldn’t it have been much easier just to give them to a charity…

Ha ha, no idea. I myself have always got a pair of smart shoes under my desk, maybe she was like me!

And now aren’t you just itching with curiosity for the real story behind the shoes? Think of all the possibilities. Boy, this would make for a terrific story prompt.
Thanks for sharing.

There used to be an intranet page at work for staff to flog stuff on. There was this guy who would advertise stuff like: 1 pair shoelaces, used but in good condition, 90cms, black. £1.50. No haggling.
He always added that to every item. A friend and colleague used to delight in emailing offering less than the asking price.
Thanks for reminding me with your funny post!
