Tall Talk Times: A Podcast for Tall People, from Tall People

Have you listened to them yet? If no, don’t hang around and do it! I wasn’t into podcasts until I started listening to the first episode of Tall Talk Times… and got hooked on it. It’s best to play it when you are not in a rush, perhaps while cooking a hearty homemade meal, or on a long drive with no one to interrupt you but the travel news.

What is unique about this project is that it is created by tall people and is entirely focused on our beloved tall theme. Everything they talk about is centred around being tall; the struggles, amusements and anecdotes accompanying our slightly extraordinary lives. You may find yourself exclaiming every so often: “I know, right??”, or “That’s what I’ve been saying/what’s been happening all my life!”, or “So it isn’t just me who feels that way?” It feels liberating and validating to listen to each and single episode where Letty and Tom, the lovely (and, needless to say, tall) hosts of the show talk about all things tall.

They are now onto their season 2 and are going strong. The episodes in season 1 have a defined structure: the first half is Tom talking about giants of history, historic figures who’ve left their mark, and the common denominator here is their height. You will hear all sorts of curious stories and even for someone who is not a particular fan of history there will be something to take away. Tom has clearly done a lot of research and put an enormous amount of effort in this, so fair play and well done to him!

The second half of the episodes is about a tall topic, each of them so familiar and relatable to anyone over 6 foot that you feel like you are having coffee with the hosts sounding out your own thoughts and feelings. Which you can actually do if you connect with them on Facebook, but more about that in a moment.

In season 2, things get mixed up a bit, and the first episode that is different to the rest happens to be the one when I came on for an interview: the episode actually started with our chat instead of Giants of History – Letty’s appreciation for myself and my blog, which I am so very grateful for.

You can listen us it here, talking for half an hour about whatever we fancy that brings us together from our shared life experiences. Thirty minutes are nowhere near enough though, so we decided to do it again soon!

Listening back to this interview, I find it cute and lovely, and, again, ever so liberating to share all these little laughs with a fellow tallie who also happens to be female and same height as me: a very rare occasion indeed! That’s us here:

The second season brings some real tall people into focus, interviewing so many of us: from a rugby player to a life coach, and so many more. There is no story like each other, yet they are all united by the common denominator, our height, and the need for people’s perception of us to change – like, now.

What I absolutely love about this podcast is the positivity that oozes from each episode, each interview, and each Letty’s chat with her guests. An expression her mum used when she was young stuck around and can well become the podcast’s trademark expression: beautifully tall. This is what we all are, beautiful because we are tall. Regardless of our differences, body features, characters, we are all beautifully tall.

So, if this has raised your interest, head over to any podcast platform and give this podcast a listen. You can also join Letty’s community of like minded people on Facebook… but there is a catch: it is only for people who are genuinely tall! You must be this tall to ride, you know. I.e., at least 5 ft 10 for women, and 6 ft 2 for men. You won’t find here guys who say they are tall, but are about 5 ft 10. No fetishists either, just genuinely tall folks brought together by this physical feature that makes us different from the rest, whether we want it or not. So let’s all embrace it together and have fun in the process.

Oh, and I nearly forgot! They organise regular meetups, once a month in London, and throughout the year in many more locations across the UK. You actually get to look people in the eye while stood up, instead of crouching down, and enjoy real life interactions with people similar to you.

I had the pleasure of going to the December meetup in Bath, just for the fun… and happened to find my soulmate there, the most amazing beautifully tall man I am now together with. Who knows, if you are single, this may well be your ticket to finding that tall person you’ve always been looking for, too.
